NATUROPATHIC MIDWIFERY

Hi, we are Dr. Brandy + Amy, Moonrise's licensed midwives trained to provide you with safe and evidence based midwifery care that is rooted in compassion, understanding and clinical excellence. With Dr. Brandy's naturopathic background we are able to broaden the scope of care you experience from pregnancy and birth, to reproductive healthcare and pediatrics. It's our blend of naturopathic medicine, community midwifery and years of experience that allows us to take great pride in the level of personalized care we offer.

We are able to include screening and diagnostic testing options as offered through conventional obstetrics, while respectfully holding space for a more hands off approach. We believe midwifery care encompasses thoughtful conversations, informed consent, shared decision making and respect. It is through our prenatal visits when we truly begin to understand your wants and desires for welcoming your little one into the world, while monitoring, identifying and reducing risk where possible. Dr. Brandy + Amy believe midwifery care is their life's work and look forward to sharing this time with your growing family.

If you would like to discuss working together please connect with us for a free consultation.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE

The majority of pregnancies fall under the category of low risk and therefore eligible for community birth, this includes being over the age 35, first time parent, or a history of c-section (VBAC/HBAC), gestational diabetes, pre-eclampsia, and many more.

If you are unsure if you are a good candidate for a community birth, come in for a free consultation!

WHAT TO EXPECT

Most families start by setting up a free consultation visit to see if we are a good match. The consult visit is a time to ask questions, connect on a person level, and determine if you are a good candidate for a home birth or birth center delivery. After that, your initial prenatal visit can be scheduled to establish care. At your first visit we get a full health history, conduct a basic physical exam, and collect blood work.

Our routine prenatal visits offer time to answer questions and concerns, discuss any upcoming screening tests, and to check in on the health of you and baby.

Prenatal care schedule may look something like this:

  • Every four weeks during the first + second trimesters until 28 weeks

  • Every two weeks from 28 weeks to 36 weeks

  • Every week after that until 41 weeks gestation

  • After 41 weeks we make a plan together for appropriate monitoring and evaluations

  • Virtual visits are available

When you go into labor, you will be attended by one of the Moonrise Midwives, a midwifery student and/or birth assistant. In many cases both midwives, Amy + Brandy attend the deliveries together. We stay, either at the home or birth center, for a period of time after delivery to ensure a safe and healthy transition, and then return for a home visit at one or two days postpartum.

Postpartum care continues through 6 weeks after delivery and includes newborn care, newborn feeding/breastfeeding support, review of newborn behavioral cues, nutrition guidance, and clinical evaluations for the postpartum person and baby.

Families love our care so much they tend to continue their pediatric care with Dr. Brandy!

"Amy was amazing to work with! From our first meeting I felt heard, seen, and supported. She helped me through my first pregnancy and delivery and I can't imagine it having gone any other way. Amy would share information with me and empower me to make my own decisions. All through my pregnancy she helped me trust my body and my ability to carry and birth my child; and as plus sized women, it meant the world to receive that affirmation! We adore her and consider her part of the family now."
