Midwifery

I provide a full range of pregnancy care.  It starts with your first prenatal visit which is usually around 8-12 weeks of pregnancy.  At the first prenatal visit, I get your medical history, your family history, we get to know each other, and I listen to your desires for your pregnancy and birth.  We will check in on baby and may listen for the baby's heartbeat.  Prenatal visits are monthly until your 8th month, or 28th week.  This means checking on your health and making sure the baby is doing well.  We also discuss any questions that you have, discuss prenatal testing, and get to know each other better.  It is a good idea to have your partner come to some or all of these visits so that they can become comfortable too.  In your 8th and 9th months, or 28-36 weeks, prenatal visits are every other week.  The 36th week visit is done in your home so that I can become acquainted with how to get to your home and visit with those whom you have chosen to attend your birth.  After 36 weeks, prenatal visits are weekly as you and your baby prepare for the birth.

When you think you are going into labor, you will call me and we will decide whether it is time for me to come to your home.  Upon arrival, my assistant and I will prepare our equipment in a non-obtrusive manner so you are free to labor how you like.  When it is time for the baby to be born, I will gently guide the baby out and onto your belly.  The cord is cut after it stops pulsing to ensure the baby gets plenty of extra oxygen from the placenta.  Cord cutting is usually a photo opportunity as it is often the partner or a family member who does the cutting.  The baby is then put to the breast and given an opportunity to breastfeed.  All newborn exams are done next to you in your own bed.  He or she is never taken out of your sight.  The first 2 postpartum visits are done at your home at 1 and 3 days after the birth.  More visits follow at 1 week, 3 weeks, and 6 weeks in my office.

Allow me to help you on your journey to have the pregnancy and birth experience that you desire while making sure that you and your baby are healthy.  Your birth experience can be what you desire.  If you have any questions or would like to schedule a complimentary consultation visit, please call 425-670-6752.

Testimonial

"Brandy is a competent, trustworthy, and well balanced midwife.  Her care is unique to her healing talents and her midwifery skill.  Carrying a baby and giving birth is a profound path which we found she complimented us well on.

Giving birth in a home setting is a privilege in today's medical construct.

I commend her for standing up for our rights and preserving the tradition of natural child birth through her practices.  Thank you deeply for the opportunity to give birth to Theo on our terms."
